hanging in Coudersport

June 4th--
I should have my sore feet soaking in a bucket of water. Better yet I should have them in the Allegeny River since it's just outside my door. The river going through the town could be picture perfect but after too many floods to count the town constructed a concrete water way. It looks like a Olymic sled run. It winds all through town.

I went through a local musuem and the lady that ram rods the place told me that three rivers start on her property or close. The Allegeny/Genesse/ Susquhanna. It's the only place in the east that three river go in three different drainages. The other place is in Glacier National Park and I have been in the that spot too. Give that man a free set of steak knives!

The musuem had tons of items that were donated from local familes. It's amazing what is in people's barns. Lots from the civil war-guns-flags- the musuem is an old house with 12 rooms and every room has something different-it blew my mind. They have one exhibit that a man carved 360 woodeden figures. The figures all move in a carnival setting with ferries wheels-it's amazing.

Maybe you have heard of Adelphia company. A wealthy Greek man set up a communication company here. Built soccer fields helped everyone out. He had just finished building a giant office complex worth 10 million. The front columns that came from Italy must have cost 1 million 3 storied high all marble 6 feet thick. As the workman walked out, the federal goverment walked in and took the family to prison for stealing from paul to pay Peter. The building with cherry wood interior sits like it's waiting for someone to occupy it. Everything around it is 1800's to 1900's and than you have a Manhattan building in the middle. All his coworkers were building big houses and they all sit outside of town unoccupted-what a mess amigo.

A marathon is coming to Coudersport tommorrow. It starts in Gelaton Pa and then 26 miles later they are here. That is the same route I walked yesterday. Lets see if they beat my record 26 miles -7 hours with a 30 pound pack ha ha

From a lumber man I learned of the past history of this area. In 1890 to 1910 all timber was cut and I mean all. All pine and Hemlock. Than the lumber barons sold the land to PA for 3 cents an acre. Then giant fires raged from all the tree branches laying on the ground. Then without replanting from man a new forest grew-self started. Hardwoods- cherry and oaks and a better forest. The tent worms sure like them, I guess this is the second year for reforesting of leaves. Acres and acres of leafless trees.
